Race Day Body and Aerodynamics winners visit Prodrive and return to
Silverstone
On Friday 12th September, DBT McNish Racing went on their tour of
Prodrive. They were guests of Prodrive courtesy of winning Body and
Aerodynamics Expert trophy at Formula Schools 2008. The team were
met by Rob Alderman of Prodrive and given the full tour of the fantastic
facilities at Banbury. The pupils were allowed into all the areas
and even saw some of the latest machinery not yet seen by the general
public!
The tour covered the heritage centre and the team got to see some
very special race cars from the past including Colin McRae's WRC championship
winning Subaru Impreza. They then moved onto the building area's for
Subaru WRC cars and to Aston Martin LeMans cars. The tour finished
back at the Heritage centre with the team being given some very exclusive
Aston Martin goodies!
On the Saturday the team then travelled to Silverstone Race track
to be special guests of Allan McNish, Audi and of the BRDC (British
Race Drivers Club). The team had the use of the old farmhouse on the
circuit, this is the archive for the BRDC. They were then taken on
a tour of the circuit by one of the BRDC members, including being
allowed on top of the new clubhouse to see an unrivalled view of Silverstone.
It was then down to the Audi Motorsports pits, to meet up with Allan
and to get a tour of the pits and of the team facilities. The tour
was filmed by Audi TV and will be shown on their sattelite channel
soon. The rest of the day was spent watching the qualifying for the
final round of the LeMans Series wich was to be raced the following
day.
The team returned to the track early on the Sunday to get the signatures
of the drivers both from Audi and from the other competitors and then
returned to the BRDC grandstand to watch the action. The race would
last nearly six hours and the cars would cover 1000 Kms. The cars
averaging 120 mph for the race! and reaching 220 mph at the end of
the Hangar Straight. It was a fantastic result for Allan, he won the
race despite being 17th after a crash involving the championship leading
Peugeot. Audi won the race, the drivers championship and manufacturers
title as well.
