Formula Schools IC Methanol Challenge

The original challenge to design and engineer a 1/8th scale car around an engine that runs on bio-fuel and produces enough power to make 50mph possible!
From simple beginnings the possibilities have no boundaries in incorporating all that is best in design engineering and manufacturing know-how.
The support materials available assist in developing advanced science and technology projects across the whole engineering and business spectrum, resulting in some quite spectacular end results in terms of business links and engineering prowess.

Formula Schools Electric Challenge

The best scheme for embedding into the KS4 curriculum for all vocational engineering and Design based courses. There are two starting points:

1. A basic kit of components which pupils assemble using simple tools and equipment to produce a drivable chassis. From there the opportunities are vast, covering design and manufacture of a bodyshell, alternative chassis, powertrain and performance enhancing components.
Suitable for younger pupils or as an extra-curricular initiative.

2. Engineering curriculum delivery, with materials and ‘impossible to make’ components supplied.
Pupils individually engineer all chassis and powertrain sub-assemblies either from their own designs or to the Formula Schools engineering schedule and drawings.
Suitable for GCSE engineering, PEO levels 1&2, Specialised Diplomas, Young Apprenticeship courses etc.

Scottish Schools Launch
Scotland
Scottish schools are taking Formula Schools by force! So far this year 8 schools will be participating in the 2009 challenge and joining us in summer 2009; making the 6 hour journey south to the national Race Day. The launch event for these schools will be taking place at Dalbeattie High School on Wednesday 1st October, start time 14:00
Rob Austin will be coming up from Oxford to show students and teachers what the project entails and how best to go about starting, running the team and building the cars, etc. Team Dalbeattie will also be on hand for schools to talk to and hopefully fire up a couple of their cars so schools can see and hear them running.
